As per UFI, the global association for the exhibition industry. Globally, there are approximately 32,000 exhibitions each year, featuring 4.5 million exhibiting companies and attracting over 303 million visitors. Exhibitors and visitors combined spend around $137 billion every year on exhibitions, making exhibitions a significant global industry.

In 2018, the total number of venues with a minimum of 5,000 sqm of gross indoor exhibition space around the world was 1,217 and the gross exhibition space available is 34.7 million sqm. 3.2 million total jobs are directly and indirectly supported by exhibitions. The total output in business sales including direct, indirect and induced output is 325 billion dollar.

IITF

The India International Trade Fair (IITF) , ever since its inception in 1980, has evolved as a major event for the business community. It is a premier event organized by the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), the nodal trade promotion agency of the Government of India. The event is held between 14–27 November every year at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India. IITF is a major tourist attraction and lakhs of people visit the fair every year. This annual event provides a common platform for the manufacturers, traders, exporters and importers. The fair displays comprises a wide range of products and services including automobiles, coir products, jute, textiles, garments, household appliances, kitchen appliances, processed food, beverages, confectionery, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, cosmetics, bodycare & health care products, telecommunication, power sector, electronic sector, furniture, home furnishings, sporting goods, toys, and engineering goods.

 

Auto Expo

The Auto Expo was conceived in the year 1985 and had its debut showcasing in 1986. The Auto Expo 1986 was a window for technology transfers showing how the Indian Automotive Industry was absorbing new technologies and promoting indigenous research and development for adapting these technologies for the rugged Indian conditions. The Auto Expo 1986 was marked by then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The 9 day show was organized from 3 to 11 January 1986 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Auto Expo 2020 was billed as one of the world’s premier auto shows. A signature event that witnessed the best minds coming together on a single platform to showcases all that was best in the automotive world, in terms of products, technologies, concepts and trends

 

DefExpo 2018-the 10th edition of the biennial mega defence exhibition-pitched India as the ‘Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub’. The Previous edition was the stage for over 50 bilateral G2G Meetings, the signing of 40 MoUs, and witnessed participation from over 700 exhibitors. This edition, focusing on ‘Digital Transformation’, is poised to see larger participation of defence manufacturers from both the public and private sectors, OEMs and MSMEs. ITPO approves holding of international trade fairs in India and regulates holding of various expositions in India primarily to avoid any duplication of efforts while ensuring proper timing. It manages India’s world class exhibition complex which is constantly upgraded to keep it in a high standard of readiness. Spread over 123 acres of prime land in the heart of India’s capital, New Delhi, Pragati Maidan offers about 61,290 sq. mtrs. of covered exhibition space in 16 halls, besides 10,000 sq. mtrs. of open display area. The state-of-the-art exhibition halls have enhanced the appeal of Pragati Maidan as the ideal center for an increasing number of fair organisers and business visitors from different parts of the world.

ITPO has an extensive infrastructure as well as marketing and information facilities that are availed by both exporters and importers. In January 2016, ITPO appointed NBCC as Project Management Consultant (PMC) for Integrated Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) project as part of Redevelopment of Pragati Maidan. The project garnered much media attention due to demolition of Hall of Nations and Nehru Pavilion by ITPO in April 2017, after approval from Delhi High Court. ITPO has awarded the IECC construction work to Shapoorji Pallonji Group for INR 2150 crores, making the project cost go over whopping INR 2600 crores.
